Wanted: American Patriot
Wanted: American Patriot
Duties include:
1. Restoring the Rule of Law in America
2. Re-establishing those “certain unalienable Rights” of “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”
3. Public reaffirmation that our government derives its “just powers from the consent of the governed”
4. Serving the American people by pursuing the “long train of abuses and usurpations” that “evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism,” “and to provide new Guards for their future security”
5. Holding accountable anyone in the Government who has “refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good”
Job Title: United States Attorney General
Alberto Gonzales is gone. What is desperately needed now is that nearly extinct creature in the Bush Administration, a government official who believes that our government really is “of the people, by the people and for the people,” not of the wealthy, by the wealthy, for the wealthy to further line their pockets at the expense of the poor and middle classes of America.
We need a patriot who ascribes to the beliefs laid down in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. For, without a Champion to uphold those rights, those precious documents will continue to crumble into dust.
We need a patriot who believes the law cannot be bent for self-serving purposes; that it applies equally to all Americans.
We need a patriot who believes those who govern must be held accountable for their actions, that no one is Above the Law.
We need a patriot who will not allow the claim of Executive Privilege to be used as a shield for hiding the truth from the body of the governed.
We need a patriot who will re-institute the requirement of oversight for the surveillance of American citizens.
We need a patriot who will not allow the Vice President to shatter the Rule of Law by declaring his office to be a fourth branch of the government and, thus, not subject to the rules of the Executive Branch.
We need a patriot who understands our rights are, in truth, nothing more than Ideals and that without a patriot to protect and defend those rights the American citizen is no better off than were the Iraqi citizens under Saddam Hussein, the Russian peasants under Stalin or the German Jews under Hitler.
We need a patriot who understands that without the Rule of Law, there is no America.
